Trundling through my old recipes, I came across quite a few frugal recipes and wondered. whatever happened to just eating egg and chips? Does anyone still do that?
My mouth is watering just thinking about dipping a crunchy chip into the lovely runny yoke. Heaven!
We all spend a fortune in the supermarkets these days, don't we? I really wish we could go back to seasonal eating and buying local produce. Life was so much simpler for our parents for a while anyway.
I've deeply regretted not having a garden this year. We should have had a small one but living so near to a busy road even killed my balcony basil. Never mind but I won't make the same mistake again.
I do love to grow my own produce and especially miss keeping chickens. Still. you lovely people have kept me going showing me your garden wares.
Anyway I decided that Friday's should always be frugal in the UnFrench grub department from now on!
Please do join in!
Lemon, bacon and pea pasta
1.5 tablespoon of olive oil
Juice of half a lemon
1 teaspoon of garlic paste
Grated parmesan (you can omit and use any cheese you have in the cupboard, even cream cheese)
Add some seasoning and dried or fresh garden herbs
A cup of frozen peas
Several slices of bacon or ham chopped
Get the bacon frying in your pan with a little of the olive oil.
Then add the garlic and fry for a minute.
Now add the lemon juice and olive oil.
Next add the herbs and peas.
Toss this sauce into your cooked pasta, add a little more olive oil and the parmesan to finish!
