Last Friday both Donna and I celebrated our birthdays, and I must admit I was a little concerned how a lockdown birthday would turn out, I need not have worried. Turning , sh 67 , hasn’t been half as bad as I thought. Some of my cards sum up my day !
I am obviously a gin swilling party animal !!! I had some amazing flowers, four bouquets in all from friends and family. You can imagine how wonderful my house smells from the stocks, roses and sunflowers. Chocolates, and perfume were welcome gifts too, but the most special gift was a proper cuddle from my grandchildren. Today we will be meeting up with them for birthday cake ! I just hope there aren’t too many candles to blow out 😉
My long suffering husband took me to the Ivy , here in Winchester, for lunch to celebrate and my goddaughter and her partner came too. I confess to being a little concerned as it was our first outing to eat since lockdown has eased here, our temperatures were taken on arrival and we were offered card menus or ones on our mobiles ! Fortunately we all passed temperature wise and were escorted to our suitable distanced table. The waitress appeared and pointed out the bottle of hand sanitiser on the table and took our drinks order whilst we perused the menus, such fun trying to decide what to have. In the end we were quite boring, one shepherds pie and three 'posh'burgers ! Sharon and I had wonderful gin cocktails, rhubarb and ginger gin with ginger ale in a glass full of crushed ice, decorated with slices of fruit. The men stuck to iced beers. But the desserts were out of this world, one rum baba, served with Chantilly cream and fresh raspberries, an apple tart served with flaming calvados and vanilla ice cream, and two chocolate bombs, these have hot caramel sauce poured over at the table and the sphere collapse revealing ice cream. Guess who couldn’t eat last night ? Lol
We walked home through the winding streets of Winchester, last the Cathedral, and were surprised by the crowds of people, most were socially distanced but it was the younger ones who seemed not to care. Once home we collapsed on the garden furniture and chatted about family news.
The end of a perfect lockdown birthday ! The picture shows us in the restaurant before the drinks arrived 😉
