I have just re read Donna's post properly, the first read I was still bleary eyed and didn’t take it in properly, so apologies Donna. We all joined the VUFWG for our own personal reasons, mine was because I adore taking a holiday in France and have done since my very first trip as a nervous 11 year old meeting up with my pen pal for the first time. I remember my parents being equally concerned about putting me, their only child, in the care of the stewardess on a BEA flight from Heathrow. On arrival in Paris I was 'found' by my pen pals mother, who barely spoke English, which matched quite well with my barely spoke French and off we went to the gare to catch a train to Nantes. Being polite I was too nervous (terrified) to ask how long the journey would be and declined the offer of the toilette ! Huge mistake but hey we learn from our mistakes. After several hours we arrived in Nantes to then get in the family car to head to Vendee, Bretignolles sur Mere to be precise. Anyway my love affair of France had begun, I often wonder what happened to Jacqueline, my pen pal as we eventually lost touch after several trips back and forth. Summers were hot and spent at their beach house, highlights were watching England win the World Cup and on another occasion watching the moon landing on a tiny black and white tv with French commentary. Life was so simple then, and so polite, old fashioned some might say ! I count myself lucky to be part of the team here at Unfrench, in fact am still amazed to have been asked. We all give our time freely, enjoy the friendships we have developed both with you all but more importantly with each other. Donna heads up the team and keeps us all in order, and sometimes we have to dust her wings ,sprinkle the fairy dust and help her see the world again without unpleasantness. The group works because we learn from each other but at the end of the day we are here to inform, update, entertain you too, and learn from you too. Some of us really know each other and some ,like me ,have a newer circle of cyber friends. This year I won’t be heading to France, but roll on 2021 when with my family we are heading over once more . So in the meantime let’s all try and be kind to each other, be mindful of someone else' feelings and above all love the lives we have.
