The Unfrench cooking group: What's in a name?

I've been thinking for a while that the name of our cooking group is a bit too long: The Very Unfrench Wives Cook. It's also a bit too similar to the main group name (The Very Unfrench Wives Group). So I asked people on our page and group about what they'd think of a new name, and if so, what should it be?

Lots of people wanted to stick to the original name, but we also had a few other popular suggestions:

  • Cooking the Unfrench Way

  • The Unfrench Kitchen

  • Cooking with the Unfrench Wives

With no consensus, it's been so hard to make a decision. There were a few things that came out of the conversations though. People wanted to keep the Unfrench theme, because it's very much a part of us Unfrenchies. And opinion was torn about whether we should be home cooks or chefs. Personally, we're all home cooks. Food, cooking and family are huge parts of French life, so home cooking aligns better with that than any sort of professional chef theme.

I took the emerging winners to our wonderful Unfrench admin team and we chose a new name! Once we started to discuss it, it became really clear what the name should be. The kitchen is the heart of the home, and when you think of a French home, you imagine a big farmhouse kitchen, perhaps with garlic hanging from the ceiling and a baguette on the counter if you're looking at the stereotype.

Besides, not only is our group about cooking, but it's also about drinks, preserving, baking, eating. It's everything that happens in the kitchen, not just cooking. So this name fits us. And it fulfils my original criteria of being shorter!

So without further ado, allow me to introduce our new name...

This doesn't change who we are, but just makes it quicker to say, and incorporates all that we do in the group. Hope you like the new look too!
